S2PS

S2PS (pronounced Stoops) is the DJ alias of Chris Klescewski. Since 2015, S2PS has been eking out a niche in the city’s thriving dance music ecosystem. A consistent repeat booking at local bass mecca The Black Box, he’s also performed at Bar Standard, Milk Bar, Antero Hall, and SugarKube. Camping festivals like Electric Pow Wow and Camp No Name in Utah have also played host to his highly intentional approach to music curation.

Chris was born in California and grew up between there, Montana and Arizona. Music offered an escape from his broken family — first hard rock, then early trance and drum and bass CDs he bought from the record store next to his dad’s car wash. He fell into a bad crowd and started getting into trouble as an adolescent. On the flip side, one of these friends introduced him to a mixtape by DJ Rinse and MC Jamalski that ignited a fire inside him.

In high school, Chris got involved with the Dojo Crew, a collective whose members represented all four elements of hip-hop. They also dabbled in drum and bass, meaning that Chris could continue to stoke the embers of his growing passion for the syncopated style. When he and his mom relocated to San Francisco, Chris finally learned to DJ himself. With the legendary Amoeba Records not far from their apartment, he dove headfirst down a rabbit hole whose end he has yet to find.

Fast forward to 2020, S2PS connected with the Drum & Bass Proper platform, becoming a regular contributor to their weekly guest mix series. Soon after, S2PS started the spin-off channel, UKG Proper in April of 2021. He has found his role in dance music as a Stateside ambassador of UK garage. The Denver-based DJ and founder of UKG Proper takes it upon himself to share knowledge, spread music, and grow the scene at every turn. Starting in August of 2024, UKG Proper hosts a dedicated UKG night at The world renowned Black Box.

S2PS keeps the old school ways alive while simultaneously looking to the future. On one hand, he’s an avid vinyl collector who still hands out mix CDs. On the other, he embraces new modes of delivery — notably through his Mountain Top Mixes YouTube series, which showcases recordings of DJ sets in scenic locations. No matter the medium, his mission is the same. His love for the groove is contagious, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
